As actuacións da Axencia irán destinadas ás pequenas e medianas empresas que conforman a cadea forestal, e que pertencen a subsectores como a explotación forestal, na que se inclúen traballos de corta e saca, de silvicultura e comercialización de madeira en bruto; a primeira transformación, á que se dedican sobre todo os serradoiros; e a segunda transformación, da cal forman parte os traballos de carpintaría e mobles, madeira tratada e elaborada, fabricación de portas e ventás, embalaxes e industrial, entre outros.

Os órganos de goberno da Axencia Galega da Industria Forestal serán a presidencia, que exercerá o titular de Economía, Emprego e Industria, e o Consello Reitor, que se prevé constituír no mes de setembro. Posteriormente nomearase a persoa que asumirá a dirección do organismo.

A nova entidade permitirá afondar no fomento das relacións entre os distintos axentes da cadea forestal, incentivando a utilización de madeira das explotacións forestais para a fabricación de produtos finais de consumo e buscando incrementar o valor engadido do produto derivado da produción forestal mediante a aplicación de deseño e innovación e a incorporación de profesionais con formación específica.

Neste sentido, fomentarase o emprego de calidade mediante o desenvolvemento de formación cualificada nos centros propios e a incorporación ao sector de especialistas con titulacións regradas de formación profesional e universitaria. Ademais, impulsarase o incremento da produtividade a través da renovación tecnolóxica e a aplicación de técnicas de enxeñaría. Buscaranse tamén novos nichos de mercado final, mediante actuacións concretas de márketing sobre o produto elaborado.

A Axencia Galega da Industria Forestal baseará as súas actuacións na colaboración participativa, e funcionará como interlocutor entre o sector e os distintos departamentos e entidades do sector público autonómico e doutras administracións para canalizar as súas demandas.

Entre as súas competencias e funcións están a de fomentar e desenvolver programas de asesoramento e de actividades científicas centradas no ámbito forestal, participar en institucións e foros nacionais e internacionais para a consecución dos seus fins, ou organizar programas de formación e reciclaxe profesional neste ámbito.

Tamén impulsará a nova Axencia a colaboración con centros de investigación públicos nas diferentes materias que o sector forestal traslade á Administración por consideralas do seu interese. Ademais, xestionará subvencións nos asuntos da súa competencia, e deseñará estratexias e programas de captación de fondos estatais e internacionais dirixidos á innovación e a biotecnoloxía forestal.

O novo organismo tamén se encargará de promover e apoiar o crecemento de novas empresas de aproveitamento e transformación de produtos do monte destinados á industria forestal no medio rural, incidindo especialmente na segunda e seguintes fases de transformación industrial do recurso, por seren as que proporcionan un maior valor engadido ao produto e reportan maiores beneficios globais.

Do mesmo xeito, desenvolveranse programas específicos para poñer en valor os produtos da industria forestal que faciliten a súa integración con empresas de deseño especializadas, ao tempo que se poñerá en marcha unha marca colectiva única que facilite a integración das diversas actividades produtivas da industria forestal: materia prima, deseño, industrialización e comercialización.
